CSA Confederate States #11d (Green) on Cover, Staunton, Va, Jefferson Davis Picture(s) and Description:

True auction, No reserve. Please Read Full Description Before Bidding Cover Only – No Contents Up for bid is this delightful Confederate cover franked with a single copy of Scott CSA# 11d, the green shade of the 10-cents CSA general issue of 1863-64. The engraved stamp features a central profile of CSA President Jefferson Davis. I do not know which printer this stamp comes from. The cover is addressed to “Miss Susie Davis / A.T. Stephensburg / Frederick County / Virginia.” The stamp is cancelled and tied to the cover by a nicely struck black circular date stamp “STAUNTON / Va. / Mar 4” with no year date, although 1864 is most likely. Condition: The stamp is centered F/VF (close at left), and appears to be sound in all respects. Both the color and impression of the stamp are very good. There is some minor discoloration from the glue at top and left, affecting the paper of the envelope more than the stamp. The envelopes’ paper quality is what was normal for this late in the war, coarse, and with a number of natural paper inclusions. There is normal edge wear, and slightly rounded corners, with a tiny piece missing at lower left corner. On the back of the envelope, the end point of the backflap was torn off upon opening, and there are some specks of foxing. There is evidence of some previous hinging on the back where the cover was mounted for display. Please see scans above. This green shade variety of CSA# 11 is quite scarce used, especially on original cover. This very pretty cover would look terrific in your collection or exhibit. I’ll be glad to answer any questions.
